Description of Final Inspections:

Primary Purposes of the Final Inspection:
  • To document improvements made to the building since the Home Performance Assessment was performed
  • To provide the owner with feedback regarding the improvement work
Assessments:
  • Assess the extent to which the work performed satisfies the improvement plan
  • Assess whether the work performed meets MHPwES standards
  • The above assessments reflect the auditor's good faith opinion about the work being assessed. This opinion is primarily based on a visual inspection of the work (utilizing diagnostic equipment as appropriate). It may not be possible, or practical, to inspect all parts of the work. In these cases, the opinion may be based on indirect indicators, or on a representative sampling of the work.
  • Kennebec Home Performance does NOT guarantee or warranty any work performed by other companies, even if that work was recommended by KHP, and even if that work received a favorable final inspection by KHP.
  • Moisture problems can cause premature failure of building components, mold, and health issues. One objective of the Home Performance Assessment, the resulting recommendations, and the final inspection is to minimize the likelihood of future moisture problems in the building. However, KHP does NOT guarantee that such moisture related problems, and mold problems in particular, will not arise.
Testing:
  • If air sealing was part of the work scope being inspected, a blower door test will be performed to ensure adequate ventilation for good indoor air quality.
  • If air sealing was part of the work scope being inspected, combustion safety tests will be performed on the primary gas or oil heating systems (or domestic water heater). Due to current State of Maine contractor licensing requirements, Home Performance Assessments are not allowed to perform an in-flue CO test, an influe draft test, or an efficiency test for most gas or oil heating systems. Secondary heating systems such as a fireplace, wood stove, or gas logs are NOT tested.
Written Report:
  • The owner will receive a written report outlining the results of the final inspection
