Maine Home Performance with Energy Star (MHPwES) Service Provider:

The MHPwES Program: The MHPwES program establishes standards and best-practices for the process of improving the energy efficiency of homes. (See www.MaineHomePerformance.org for more information on the MHPwES program.) To qualify for this Energy Star Label, service providers must complete special training and be nationally certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI) as a Building Analyst. (See www.bpi.org for more information about BPI certification.)

The MHPwES Process: The MHPwES process includes 1) a Home Performance Assessment, 2) the installation of recommended improvements, and 3) a final inspection. All three phases of the process must meet MHPwES standards and are subject to state funded quality assurance inspections.

Kennebec Home Performance's Role in MHPwES: Kennebec Home Performance (KHP) performs the Home Performance Assessment and final inspection phases of the MHPwES process and helps the owner find qualified contractors to install recommended improvements.

BPI Standards: All Home Performance Assessments and final inspections performed by KHP shall meet or exceed the MHPwES standards and, in particular, the Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst standards. The BPI standards may be viewed at http://www.bpi.org/documents/Building_Analyst_Standards.pdf .

Having KHP perform a Home Performance Assessment (always done to MHPwES standards) does NOT OBLIGATE the owner to have improvements installed, have improvements installed to HPwES standards, or to have KHP perform a final inspection for improvements that are installed.
